Blessings from Butner PC
September 5, 2017
“And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:20b)
The people of Houston, Texas, and the surrounding area are just beginning the long road to recovery and the threat of a new, even more powerful hurricane looms on the horizon. As the forces of nature wreak havoc on our world, it is easy to become despondent, perhaps even feeling like we have been abandoned by God.
But nothing could be further than the truth. What Jesus said in the Great Commission holds true for us as well, “And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” The apostles faced all sorts of uncertainty and hardship as they prepared to “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,” but Jesus promised to walk with them on their journey, just as He walks with each of us. Take comfort that no matter what challenge we face, we never face it alone.
On a personal note, June and I thank you for the wonderful time of food and fellowship after worship last Sunday. I loved the very creative candy-filled message. It is sitting on an easel in my study as I write this. The card was also very thoughtful and the gift card was extremely generous. I meant what I said on Sunday – you are a very special congregation. You truly exemplify the body of Christ, both in terms of its diversity and its unity. Your love and compassion personify the family of God and I feel blessed and grateful to have had an opportunity to be a part of the Butner PC family for the last three years. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless you and guide you – both individually and together as Butner Presbyterian Church.
While this will be my last newsletter, I hope that someone will pick it up and keep it going, perhaps monthly instead of weekly. If you are interested, please let me know and I can pass along the Word template I use and the email distribution list.
