Pastor’s Corner – April 19 2017

Blessings from Butner PC

“For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved” (Romans 10:10)

Pastor’s Corner

I hope you all had a wonderful Easter. It is a special time of year, so much so that I hate to see it go. After all of the build-up of Lent and Holy Week, after the time spent with family and friends, after the special services of worship, it is something of a let-down when it is over.

I think part of why we feel that way is after spending the time from Advent to Easter recalling the birth, ministry, and death of Christ, we enter into a period that even the lectionary refers to as “ordinary time.” After the extraordinary gospel story of the last several months, it seems as if there is nothing special left.

The disciples of Christ probably felt the same way right after the crucifixion. But we know the rest of their story. We know the excitement and challenges that lie ahead for them – the post-resurrection appearances of Christ, His ascension into heaven, the Pentecost, and the heady early days of the church when they added thousands to their number. Easter wasn’t the end of their story – it was just the beginning.

The same is true for us. Just like the disciples, we still have work to do. It is up to us to carry on the ministry of our Lord and Savior. It is up to us to spread the good news of the gospel. It is up to us, through the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, to bring about his kingdom on earth until He comes again.

There is nothing ordinary about that.
