Pastor’s Corner – Feb 22 2017

Blessings from Butner PC February 22, 2017

“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved, but abides forever.” (Ps 125:1)

Pastor’s Corner I have come to appreciate that church means something different to every person. For some, it is a place of refuge. For others, it is an opportunity for prayer or contemplation. Some people come for the music, some for the fellowship, and – believe it or not – some for the sermon. Some prefer a traditional style of worship. Others, like my 89 year old father, prefer a contemporary service with a praise band. Some come out of a sense of duty or obligation. Others come out of a sense of longing or seeking. Some come to serve. Others come to be served. But whatever church means to us, whatever brings us through those doors on Sunday morning, we all have one thing in common. We share a belief in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. That, above all, is what is most important. If we can be true to our faith and follow the path of His teaching, everything else will fall in place. It really is that simple. And when the church is at its best – the church with a capital “C” – we can be most, if not all, of those different things every person is looking for. I am admittedly a little biased, but I believe that Butner Presbyterian exemplifies those words you see at the top of the bulletin every Sunday, “Whatever your religious background and however you have come to be here, we welcome you to Butner Presbyterian Church. We hope that you will feel comfortable and fulfilled, and that you will be strengthened to meet the challenges of your daily lives.” Thank you for being a light to the path, for each other and those who have not yet entered.
