“Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.” (Prov 3:13-14)
Pastor’s Corner
June and I like to go to craft shows. Fortunately, there is no shortage of them in this area. We went to one at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Cary last fall and I found a wooden plaque that now sits on a shelf in our guest bathroom. It is one of those truisms that is also funny, which is why I liked it. It says,
“Wash your hands and say your prayers ‘cause Jesus and germs are everywhere.”
They’re more alike than you might think: You wash your hands to get rid of germs and you pray to Jesus to get rid of sins (or at least be forgiven for them.) It reminds me of what my grandmother used to say, “Cleanliness is next to Godliness.” (Although I think that was just her motivation to get me to wash my hands.)
But it is also a great reminder that Jesus is always with us, no matter where we are or what we are doing. Jesus is with us at the breakfast table. Jesus is with us in the car on our way to work or school. Jesus is with us during that meeting or test we were dreading. Jesus is with us at the grocery store and the hairdresser and the driving range. There is no place we can be that Jesus is not with us.
Jesus is always just a prayer away.
